Microsoft has announced deals with Nintendo and Nvidia to convince regulators to give the green
light to its $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the gaming company behind the Call of Duty series. Brad Smith, Microsoft’s president, and Phil Spencer, its chief gaming executive, travelled to Brussels to address European competition commissioners in a closed hearing yesterday, setting out their case for the deal in the latest phase of investigations by watchdogs in Britain, the United States and the European Union. Microsoft’s takeover of one of the world’s most successful game developers raised concerns among regulators that the Call of Duty game may not be made available on other consoles and that Microsoft could dominate cloud gaming. The European Commission said its initial concerns were that «the transaction may significantly reduce competition on the markets for the distribution of console and PC video games, including multi-game subscription services and cloud game streaming services, and for PC operating systems».
Smith, Microsoft’s president, tweeted yesterday that Microsoft had signed a binding ten-year contract to bring Xbox games to gamers on Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service and Nintendo consoles «the same day as Xbox with full feature and content parity».
While Microsoft doesn't know how to make things better for their customers, Sony is taking down their 20 free games you get when buying a PS5. I just don't understand what Sony is trying to do here? Do they want less customers?
ReplyDeleteThey want more money and are trying to get it by having people buy those 20 games instead of getting them for free.
DeleteSony (under their current leadership) is in for a rude awakening. They will soon lose a LOT of users because of the changes they're making. Microsoft is doing amazingly well with their Game Pass and more people are going to make the move soon.
Delete@Mick, you just wait 1-2 years until all the studies Microsoft owns will start releasing new games. Then Game Pass will be unstoppable and the greatest value for your buck.
DeleteTaking down the PS5 Plus Collection is a huge mistake. This is one of the main selling points of the PS5 console. Now people will have to invest another $500+ to get some or all of those games. I think Sony is feeling like they can’t be brought down, that their fans will just take all these bad changes and still stick around. They’re wrong. People will eventually get sick of this and just take their money elsewhere.
