Full-year profits at Compass, the world’s largest catering group, rose 175 per cent to £1.5 billion in the 12 months to the end of September as workers returned to factories and offices and sports fans to stadiums.
Profits at Compass are now back above pre-Covid levels. Revenue over the period rose 37.5 per cent to £25.8 billion, up from £17.91 billion a year earlier.
Alongside the full-year results Compass, which was forced to tap shareholders for £2 billion during the pandemic, announced plans to buy back a further £250 million shares in addition to a £500 million buyback announced earlier this year.
Dominic Blakemore, chief executive, said: “Compass has emerged from the pandemic as a stronger and more resilient business.”
The company forecast that profit growth would be more than 20 per cent in 2023 and margins would be above 6.5 per cent.
Good to hear of businesses that have survived the pandemic and are stronger for it. To more news like this! And let's hope the growth goes on and spreads around to other industries as well. I hope the people working at Compass all feel this growth in their paychecks.
